OSRS Tempoross Guide
Tempoross is a Spirit of the Sea, who is said to be as old as Gielinor. It has recently awoken from a long sleep and has been wreaking ships that cross its path by creating intense storms. Being a minigame style boss, the only way to defeat it is by using non-combat skills. A crew of fishermen from the city of Al-Kharid called the Spirit Anglers have set up a port in the southern desert to create a safe passage for sailors that pass through the sea. But to do that, they must overpower the spirit with the help of players around Gielinor, who have a Fishing level of 35.
Although Tempoross is considered a minigame style boss, it is not a minigame. So, even if players do not deal any damage from the boss during a fight, they can still lose their items upon death. Speaking of which, HCM (Hardcore Ironmen) will lose their status upon death, which is similar to death by poison.
There are four different ways to get there:
1. You can use the Ferryman Sathwood’s boat, located south of the Al-Kharid bank to reach directly to the Tempoross.
2. You can use the Pharaoh’s Sceptre to get to Jaldraocht, and then head south-west to reach the Azzandra’s Pyramid.
3. You can use a Camulet to get to the Enakhra’s Temple and then head south.
4. You can also use a Magic Carpet to get to Menaphos, and then head north-west.
Strategy
The encounter first begins when you board the ship, located at the end of the dock in the Ruins of Unkah. The spirit can either be fought alone or with a group. Normally, the captain (Captain Dudi) will start with a countdown before departing, but if the members in the lobby are full, then they will immediately depart. A plus point is that multiple instances are allowed while battling Tempoross, so you won’t have to wait for the last departed ship to finish their fight. Once you depart and arrive at the Tempoross Cove, you’ll see two ships, both of which are the same and you can get on either one. You can then pick items that include ropes, hammers, buckets and harpoons from the crates that are on deck if you’ve forgotten your own.
The main objective is to deplete the Tempoross’ spirit to zero and do so, you must first fire cannons at it using Harpoon-fish as ammo. Harpoon fish can be obtained from the fishing spots around the area, and if the fish is cooked, it will deal more damage to the Tempoross. For example, raw Harpoon-fish deals 10 damage and cooked deals 15. For faster fishing and a special attack bonus of +3, you can use a Crystal Harpoon. Some spots have jumping Harpoon-fishes, these spots give you a chance to catch two fishes at a time, so keep an eye out for them.
Once the energy is depleted, the second phase will begin. In this phase, you must catch the energized fishes from the whirlpool that can be found at each dock. This is done to reduce the spiritual presence that it carries, and if it is fully reduced before the Tempoross restores its energy, then the encounter will be successful. However, if you’re unable to do so, then it will regain all its energy and return to its first phase. You will have three chances to successfully defeat him, anything above three will result in an unsuccessful encounter.
Attack Styles
The boss can’t be that easy, can it? Of course, it will fight back and attempt to disrupt your movements using different attacks, so that you lose focus on gathering the resources needed to defeat it. The Tempoross has three different attack styles:
Wave Attack
During this attack, a huge wave will fall upon the docks and push you a few blocks away. However, you can avoid it by using a rope and tying yourself to the Totem Poles or Masts on the ships. If you’re not tethered to a pole or mast, then all your tools, as well as your Harpoon-fishes will be swept away by the pressure and you’ll have to collect them again, which would result in time consumption. The Masts and Totem Poles can also break due to the high pressure from the wave, so you’ll have to fix it using a hammer. This attack starts to take place when it has 10% energy left or lower.
Lightning Attack
Lighting attacks will occur all over the island, and if you’re hit by one of these strikes, you don’t have to worry as you won’t die. But it may result in a random tool in your inventory being destroyed, along with your Harpoon-fishes. If the strike falls at random places, it may result in a fire being started, which is important to be put out using a bucket of water, or it will spread across the island. Similar to the wave attack, lightning attacks will not start unless the Tempoross has 10% energy or lower.
Torrent Attack
This attack is launched directly towards the cannons to disable them, and any player that is near the cannon when the hits, will result being stunned. A smart way to avoid it is by stepping a few blocks away and using another cannon onboard. Similar to the other two attacks, this will not start unless it has 10% energy or lower.
Point System
Fishing Harpoon-fish at designated fishing spots grants you 5 points for each fish. Cooking them to increase their output will grant you 10 points. If you deposit the Harpoon-fishes into the crates that are next to the cannons, you will be granted 20, 65, 20 points per fish, for Raw, Cooked or Crystallised Harpoon-fishes, respectively. Repairing a Mast or Totem so that players can tether themselves to it, will grant you points. Extinguishing the fire created by Tempoross’ lightning attack will grant you 20 points. Tethering yourself to a Mast or Totem, during a wave attack will grant you 10 points, and Harpoon-fishing at the whirlpool will grant you 55 points per scatter.
Rewards
During the battle, players can gain a good amount of Fishing experience, along with Construction, Strength and Construction. You do not get any experience upon defeating the Tempoross, but it does leave behind the Debrid, which can be looted from a reward pool at the Ruins of Unkah. The Debris can contain unique rewards like Spirit Flakes, Tackle Box, Tome of Water, Tiny Tempor, Dragon Harpoon, Fish Barrel, Big Harpoon-fish, Spirit Angler’s Outfit or the Great Blue Heron. Good luck defeating Tempoross!
