In this article, we're diving into how to get ready for the much-anticipated Elden Ring DLC, "Shadow of the Erdtree." As you gear up for this new adventure, there are some crucial steps and strategies to keep in mind. Let's break it down step by step, ensuring you're well-prepared to conquer the challenges ahead.

Defeating Mohg: The Essential Step

First and foremost, to access the "Shadow of the Erdtree" DLC, you need to have defeated Mohg, Lord of Blood. If you haven't tackled this formidable foe yet, now's the time. Mohg is found in Mohgwyn Palace, and defeating him grants you access to the Cocoon of the Empyrean, the gateway to the DLC.

Reaching Mohgwyn Palace

There are two primary paths to Mohgwyn Palace:

1. Late Game Route: Head to the Hidden Path to the Haligtree. You'll encounter an enemy guarding a portal that warps you to the palace.

2. Early Game Route: Complete White-Faced Varre's questline. You'll find Varre near Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes after first meeting him at The First Step. His quest involves acquiring the Blood of a Maiden, which you can get at the Church of Inhibition. Completing this questline rewards you with an Elden Ring items that teleports you directly to Mohgwyn Palace.

Pre-DLC Boss Recommendations

Taking down certain bosses before diving into the DLC can significantly ease your journey. Here are the key bosses you should consider defeating:

Starscourge Radahn

Radahn's Great Rune is invaluable for late-game content. Unlike Godrick's Great Rune, which boosts all stats, Radahn's Great Rune increases maximum HP, FP, and stamina—perfect for enduring tough battles in the DLC.

Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy

Rykard's Great Rune is another excellent choice due to its HP restoration upon defeating enemies. This ability will be incredibly useful while exploring new legacy dungeons in the DLC, helping you maintain health without relying solely on flasks.

Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon

Defeating Rennala allows you to respec your character's stats. This flexibility is crucial as you'll likely encounter new gear, spells, and playstyles in the DLC. Being able to adapt your build to new challenges and opportunities will enhance your experience.

Stocking Up on Upgrade Materials

Before venturing into the DLC, ensure you have a plentiful supply of upgrade materials. Bell Bearings are essential for purchasing smithing stones from the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold. Aim to have a minimum of 48 of each smithing stone tier and an ample supply of somber smithing stones.

Suggested Quantities

· Smithing Stones: Buy in groups of 12 to cover the typical upgrade pattern (2, 4, 6) for six weapons.

· Somber Smithing Stones: Ensure you have enough to fully upgrade at least four somber weapons.

· Grave Gloveworts and Ghost Gloveworts: Stock up on these to upgrade your Spirit Ashes, which will play a significant role in your DLC journey.

Preparing Your Build and Equipment

When it comes to your character's level and build, there's no strict requirement. The DLC introduces a new leveling system involving blessings that boost attack power and defense, making your current level less critical. Whether you're level 90 or 300, you'll be able to adapt and thrive.

Build Recommendations

For my walkthrough character, currently at level 170, I plan to maintain a balanced build with soft caps on Vigor, Endurance, Strength, and Dexterity. This approach ensures versatility in using various weapons and adapting to new challenges. Remember, it's important to:

· Have Multiple Weapons: Equip a variety of weapons catering to different combat situations. For instance, a piercing weapon, a heavy weapon for "bonking," and a reliable standard weapon.

· Spell Selection: If you're a caster, ensure you have a comprehensive selection of spells to tackle diverse enemy types and scenarios.

Final Preparations

With the basics covered, here are a few additional tips to ensure you're fully prepared for "Shadow of the Erdtree":

1. Upgrade Your Spirit Ashes: Powerful Spirit Ashes can be game-changers in tough battles. Upgrade your favorites to maximize their potential.

2. Collect Consumables: Stock up on consumables like healing items, buff potions, and status ailment cures. These can be lifesavers in challenging encounters.

3. Backup Save Files: Although Elden Ring is generally stable, it's a good practice to backup your save files before major updates or DLC releases to prevent any potential data loss.

Conclusion

Preparing for the "Shadow of the Erdtree" DLC in Elden Ring involves a mix of strategic boss defeats, stockpiling essential materials, and ensuring your build is adaptable. By following these steps, you'll be well-equipped to face whatever challenges the DLC throws your way.

Remember, the world of Elden Ring is vast and full of surprises. Stay flexible, experiment with new strategies, and most importantly, enjoy the journey. See you in the Lands Between, Tarnished. Happy gaming!
