The Fury Druid in Diablo II: Resurrected

Jul 27, 2024, 11:45:25 PST | Categories : Diablo 2 Resurrected |

Yo, welcome in, fellas! Today, we're diving deep into the world of the Fury Druid in Diablo II: Resurrected. This melee character is one I don't play very often, but it has been highly requested and talked about during my live streams. So, I decided to give it a thorough test, and boy, was I surprised at how insanely powerful it is. Let's jump right into it.

Stats and Distribution

First off, let's look at the stats. For strength, you'll want just enough to wear your D2R items gear. With the gear I have, it bumped my strength to over 200. You could argue for putting even more points into strength to increase your damage, but generally, we dump all remaining points into vitality. We have around 4,000 life before using Battle Orders, which goes up to 4,200 after casting it. If you want to forego 100-200 points in vitality to increase strength for higher damage, that's a viable option, especially if you're planning to face Ubers or other tough enemies.

Regarding resistances, they are generally low after considering the gear setup. However, this is fine for most normal monsters and on Players 8 difficulty because you leech back so much life. If you're heading into areas with lots of elemental damage, like souls, youll need to boost your resistances accordingly.

Skill Tree

Shape Shifting Skills

Most of our points go into the Shape Shifting tree:

    • Werewolf: 20 hard points

    • Lycanthropy: 20 points

    • Feral Rage: 20 hard points

We use Feral Rage as a buff. It lasts for 20 seconds, so you'll need to keep it active regularly. After buffing up, we switch to Fury, which is also maxed out with 20 hard points. Additionally, we put one point into Werebear and Maul for specific situations.

Summoning Skills

Our remaining points go into the Summoning tree:

    • Oak Sage: 1 point

    • Raven: 1 point

    • Spirit Wolf: 1 point

    • Dire Wolf: 1 point

    • Summon Grizzly: All remaining points

We eventually cap out at around 18 hard points in Heart of Wolverine, which boosts attack rating and damage for you and your summons. As you level up, any extra points can go into Dire Wolf, which synergizes with Summon Grizzly, increasing its life.

Gear

Now, onto the gear. I went with a unique setup that you don't see often:

    • Weapon: Breath of the Dying Archon Staff. It has high minimum damage for consistent output. You can choose other bases like Ethereal Warpike, Zerker Axe, or Colossus Blade depending on your preference.

    • Helmet: Metamorphosis. This runeword provides buffs from both the bear and wolf forms. For more magic find, consider Jalal's Mane or other options.

    • Armor: Enigma. It allows teleportation, which is useful for repositioning in fights, and provides faster run/walk, magic find, and other beneficial stats.

    • Gloves: Laying of Hands. These provide increased attack speed, fire resistance, and bonus damage to demons.

    • Belt: Verdungo's Hearty Cord. It offers vitality and damage reduction, although String of Ears is also a good option.

    • Boots: Gore Riders. They provide crushing blow, deadly strike, and open wounds, which are essential for dealing high damage.

    • Amulet: Highlords Wrath. This gives skills, increased attack speed, deadly strike, and some lightning resistance.

    • Rings: A combination of a Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band for life leech and a dual-leech ring with resistances.

    • Swap: Call to Arms and a Spirit shield for pre-buffing with Battle Orders.

    • Charms: Shape Shifting skillers, Annihilus, Hellfire Torch, and small charms with magic find.

Mercenary

For the mercenary, I chose the Act II Might Mercenary for the damage boost. His gear includes:

    • Weapon: Reaper's Toll with a Shael Rune.

    • Helmet: Andariel's Visage.

    • Armor: Fortitude.

Performance

Eldritch and Shenk

A common area to test builds is Eldritch and Shenk. On Players 8 difficulty, the Fury Druid shines here. Use Feral Rage to buff up, then switch to Fury to tear through enemies. The life leech keeps you healthy, even against tough packs. Eldritch and Shenk go down quickly with this setup.

Chaos Sanctuary

In the Chaos Sanctuary, teleport to your targets using Enigma, switch to werewolf form, and start slashing. Feral Rage and Fury combination ensures you deal high damage and stay alive through life leech. The seal bosses and Diablo himself fall swiftly under the relentless assault of the Fury Druid.

Uber Tristram

With some gear adjustments, the Fury Druid can also handle Ubers. Swap in Dracul's Grasp for life tap, and use Thundergod's Vigor for lightning resistance against Uber Mephisto. This build can easily defeat Ubers with these changes.

Diablo Clone

For Diablo Clone, switch to Players 1 difficulty. Use the same technique as before: Feral Rage for buffing and Fury for attacking. Diablo Clone goes down quickly, showcasing the power of this build even against the toughest single-target bosses.

Conclusion

The Fury Druid in Diablo II: Resurrected is a powerful and versatile melee build. It can handle a variety of challenges, from farming and magic finding to taking on Ubers and Diablo Clone. With the right gear and skill distribution, you'll be chopping down demons in no time.
